Fiscal Responsibility
Entrusted by all my council colleagues to serve on our Audit committee, which makes sure our tax dollars are well accounted for. I have also advocated greater financial transparency from the City, so you don’t need an accounting degree to understand how well the city is sticking to budget. In 2024, I proposed, and no other council member supported, holding city administration accountable to the line items in the budget, requiring them to seek prior authorization before going over what was authorized.
Civil Liberties
I believe the City Council has an obligation to tread very lightly to respect every Rollaite’s civil liberties. I voted against limiting park hours, as I see these as government restrictions on freedom of movement. I voted for ordinances related to crosswalks because I think the interface between cars and pedestrians on the roadway should be carefully regulated to ensure everyone’s safety. I argued against a proposal that would have trampled on the First Amendment rights of residents. I’m proud this council agreed with me and voted against these measures. I led the way in making sure everyone enjoys full due process, including their day in court, before the city could take action to address distressed properties.

Focus on The City
I believe the City council has an obligation to focus on issues that are squarely within the scope of our responsibilities. There are enough issues with respect to public safety, fiscal stewardship, and basic rights that we don’t need to go looking for national or state issues to try to turn them into ill-conceived local issues. We should focus on implementing the Comprehensive Plan, balancing the budget, and ensuring every citizens’ rights are not only respected, but protected.
